In the News: Lapse App
October 13, 2023
Recently, a new photo-sharing app named Lapse was released. Here’s what our GFM leaders have to say about it.
What you need to know
Lapse combines the concept of disposable camera with social media. Once a user takes a photo on their phone, they must wait for it to “develop” before they can share or archive the photo.
Lapse uses a unique invite-only approach, where users need to invite 5 other friends in order to join.
The platform aims to promote authenticity on social media: all photos are unedited and there is no option to “Like” others’ posts.
Our gut reactions:
The idea of taking disposable photos on your phone is cool; photos are aesthetic :)
The app requires extensive sign-up and notifications (inviting friends, adding widget to lock screen). This may be discouraging for people looking to enforce boundaries with screen time.
The website says there is a waitlist to join the app: is there really a demand or is this a marketing ploy?
We think it’s headed in the…
Right direction
Wrong direction
Too soon to tell
What to look out for:
Will Lapse become a space for authentic sharing and connecting? We’ll see…
